Cease and desist letter

cease and desist letter: often arising in intellectual property disputes, a letter requiring a party to stop engaging in certain conduct, usually because that conduct infringes the writer’s legal rights; for example, in the context of intellectual property law, a cease and desist letter may be appropriate where the owner of an intellectual property (IP) right, such as a trade mark, copyright or patent, has identified that his IP rights are being infringed and wishes to formally demand the infringing party to cease and desist from any further infringing conduct.
