Data Protection Officer

Data Protection Officer: in data protection law, the person appointed to ensure compliance with an organisation’s data protection responsibilities. Article 37 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) makes it mandatory for some organisations such as public authorities or those that carry out large scale monitoring or processing of personal data to appoint a Data Protection Officer. The duties of Data Protection Officers are set out in Article 39 of the GDPR and include informing and advising organisations of their obligations, monitoring compliance and being the organisation’s first point of contact.
